ABOUT AUTHOR

I am a desk jockey by day and a somewhat manic writer by night. My body resides in Melbourne, Australia but my mind can be, and often is, anywhere.

Growing up on a steady diet of Buffy the Vampire Slayer, Dark Angel, X-men and X-Files, I have a fierce love of strong female characters and paranormal/urban fantasy situations.

I spent the summer of my youth going back and forth to the library and hauling home novels by the likes of Tamora Pierce, Isobelle Carmody, Laura Ingalls Wilder and S.E. Hinton.

More recently I’ve added Ilona Andrews, Suzanne Collins and Richelle Mead to my ever growing list of favourite authors. It probably wasn’t a surprise to anyone when I started writing science fiction and dystopian novels. It will come as a huge surprise that I’ve added some contemporary romance into the mix. But hey, we all have to grow up some time and romance is my writing kryptonite.

My debut series Wind Dancer combines everything I love: action, adventure, horticulture, a strong heroine of colour, and most importantly hope.

I’m going to assume that if you’re reading this you want to know more about me. Being slightly obsessive, I can’t get enough of talking about my books or any book for that matter. You can use the contact page to get in touch with me any time. Or alternatively, you can drop me an email at lc.novel[at]gmail.com.

"Oh. My. Words!!
Talk about a great introduction to the writing of a new (to me) author! Bloodline Academy has a little bit - and then some - of everything to satisfy readers of all genres: action, danger, romance, tried-and-true friendship, education (that's for the teacher in me), supernatural vibes, etc.
The central character, Alessia - or Lex as she prefers to be called, is a girl who finds herself fending for herself on the "mean" streets of Melbourne, Australia after the only relative she has, her grandmother is committed to a psychiatric hospital. For 6 years Lex has braved the world on her own while keeping tabs on her Nanna hoping that something or someone will be able to break the mysterious and unidentified problem that holds her Nana's mind. One fateful day, Lex makes the mistake of touching Nanna, and that is the beginning of a whole new chapter in the life of a teenager with so many questions about herself but so few answers."

Of course, there's more to it than that! This is a very fun and exciting read. It does seem to be in the same vein as Vampire Academy, but definitely does not steal anything from it. Lan Chan has her very high stakes way of writing that you don't find in most YA novels. Very intense action.

I really enjoyed getting to know these characters. They are interesting and unique. Lex is so stark and forthright, I'm surprised she doesn't get smacked around for it. Since she is new to the Bloodline Academy school, she's obviously and outsider, but it doesn't end there. She never knew anything about magical beings before the story began and she's been a homeless teenager for a few years upon entering, too. Talk about a night and day difference between herself and the rest of the students!
